    100,000 Miles!

    100,000 Miles!

I was driving to work this morning and noticed my car just reached 100,000 miles!  I pulled out my BlackBerry and took a quick picture at the next stop light.  The picture is really blurry though.

Hoping to get another 100,000 miles from this car!

  • Sacrifice your Facebook friends for a Whopper?

Posted on January 10th, 2009 webmaster No comments

I just saw this article on Digg, I thought it was pretty funny.

Fast-food chain Burger King has created “Whopper Sacrifice,” a Facebook app that will give you a coupon for a free hamburger if you delete 10 people from your friends list.

Burger King has put out some interesting campaigns as of late (”Whopper Virgin,” “Subservient Chicken”), but this one piques our interest because of how gleefully it pokes fun at our social-networking obsessions. “Now is the time to put your fair-weather Web friendships to the test,” the Whopper Sacrifice site explains. “Install Whopper Sacrifice on your Facebook profile, and we’ll reward you with a free flame-broiled Whopper when you sacrifice ten of your friends.”

I’m tempted to do it, but if I delete 10 Facebook friends I won’t have any left…

  • Billionaire Blowups of 2008

    Happy New Year!

I was just checking out the Bogleheads Forum and someone posted this link from Yahoo! Finance about some of the richest people in the world who lost billions of dollars in the last few months.

More than 300 of the 1,125 billionaires we tallied on our annual list last March have since lost at least $1 billion; several dozen lost more than $5 billion. The 10 richest from our 2008 rankings dropped some $150 billion of wealth, dragged down by steel tycoon Lakshmi Mittal, estranged brothers Mukesh and Anil Ambani and property baron K.P. Singh, who together dropped $100 billion. America’s 25 biggest billionaire losers of 2008 lost a combined $167 billion.

  • Roller Coasters!

Posted on October 8th, 2008 webmaster No comments

I had to go to Ohio this week to take care of some stuff for work, so I decided to go a couple of days earlier to check out the Cedar Point Amusement Park in Sandusky, OH.

It was on a Saturday so the park was packed, wait time for the rides is between 15 minutes to 2 hours.  The really good rides usually have a wait time of at least 1 hour.  One day is definitely not enough to get on all the rides, I only got on to about 8 of them, there are 17 roller coasters in this park.

My favorite one was the Magnum XL-200, best roller coaster I’ve ridden so far.  Their “top thrill” coaster is the Dragster, but I skipped this one because of the long wait.  I’m definitely coming back here again so that gives me something to look forward to :).

If you’re ever in Ohio and you like roller coasters, make sure you check out Cedar Point.  I promise you you’ll have a lot of fun :).

  • Toshiba Gives Up On HD DVD, Sony’s Blu-ray Wins

Posted on February 19th, 2008 webmaster No comments

It’s finally official, Sony’s Blu-ray wins the HD format war.

From MSNBC: Toshiba announced today that it will no longer make HD DVD players and recorders. Toshiba’s president, Atsutoshi Nishida, said that Warner Bros. Entertainment’s decision last month to release videos in Blu-ray format only had a tremendous impact and they simply had no chance to win.

An estimated 1 million HD DVD players have been sold worldwide and Toshiba promises that it will still continue to provide support for them.

It sure sounds like it. According to Reuters, Wal-Mart has decided to abandon Toshiba’s HD DVD format and will only sell Blu-ray players and movies starting in June of this year. Best Buy and Netflix earlier this week have decided to only support the Blu-ray format as well.

Here’s a list of some of the companies currently supporting Blu-ray:

    1. Sony Corp (of course)
    2. Target
    3. Best Buy
    4. Wal-Mart
    5. Netflix
    6. Blockbuster
    7. News Corp’s 20th Century Fox
    8. Walt Disney Co
    9. Lion’s Gate Entertainment Corp
    10. Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer
    11. Warner Bros. Entertainment

Even Microsoft (maker of the XBox 360 console, which currently only works with HD DVD) said that it could consider supporting the Blu-ray technology if that’s what the consumers want.
